What does Catamaran mean?

A catamaran is a vessel with two main hulls connected by a structure or deck. Sailing catamarans include both light performance designs and spacious cruising boats.

Why it matters when choosing a sailboat

Beam, payload, bridge-deck clearance and access to maintenance are important comparison points. Extra accommodation does not mean unlimited carrying capacity. Marina space and haul-out options can differ from those for a monohull of similar length.

A practical example

A four-cabin layout may work for guests, while an owner’s version may dedicate more space to one cabin.

A question to ask before buying

What is the permitted load, which cabin layout is fitted, and can local yards haul this beam?
